Album: 1942 Al Ljung Album

     Album:Family/Historical photos.:Gramps Allen:1940 Decade:1942 Al Ljung Album
1942-1
( comments) Dad labeled "1103 (!)" Looks like early spring 1942. Note the ramshackle "shed" on right. Clearly before the early spring photos when "shed is finished. Could even be winter.
1942-2
( comments) Squirrel in oak in front of 1103. Early Spring 1942
1942-3
( comments) On photo "Grace Brennan March 1942" Must be friend of Irene, I don't know her.
1942-4
( comments) 1103 and Model A with the 1942 plates. Note the shed has been replaced and there is a new stairs down into basement. Also upstrairs windows have been shortened and a new central chimney has been added. Early Spring 1942
1942-5
( comments) No info. However note license plate on 1929 Model A - shows 1942. Ida in from of car. Note "defroster screen" on windhield. Spring 1942.
1942-6
( comments) Dad labeled "Carl" In ZL5 this photo next to a duplicate of photo with Ida and Model A. Probably same day, so spring 1942.
1942-7
( comments) Dad has labeled "Albin making screens for 1103 1942" Note that a more washed out version of this exact photo was ZL4 318. For that photo (now deleted as copy) Dad labeled "making new screems before going to Bremerton Wash." My guess is early spring or about April 1942. Note Albin is in Hibbing April 27, 1942 so my guess is early April, 1942
1942-8
( comments) Dad labeled "Ida and Leo Peterson on right of pix" No info on other child. Leo is four years older than Don so born about 1939. Leo looks about 2 1/2 so early 1942. I believe it is taken same time as photo ZL3 016 (Albin making screens also dated 1942).
1942-9
( comments) This was a negative in Albin's album. It clearly is same day as the previous photo with Ida. Leo Peterson in wagon. About early April 1942.
1942-10
( comments) Dad labeled next 21 photos "The War Years" Dad labeled this postcard "Ida worked here and Albin and Ida lived here while he went to ships carpentry school in Hibbing MN 1942" Goes with next photo. April 27, 1942.
1942-11
( comments) Back of previous card. So in April 1942 Albin is in Hibbing and Ida is still at 1103 in Alex.
1942-12
( comments) "Agnes" no date info, assume 1942 from album placement
1942-13
( comments) Mom on back "Ronnie and "Scoocher" 1942" Ronnie Hanson was born Jan 18, 1942.
1942-14
( comments) "Howard" no date info, not necessarily even same time as Agnes photo ZL5 119. Assume 1942 from album placement.
1942-15
( comments) Mom wrote on back "1942" Clearly Howard Hanson.
1942-16
( comments) No info. Is that Ellen Eilers painting? Guess 1942 from album placement.
1942-17
( comments) Dad labeled "Harold" Guess 1942.
1942-18
( comments) "878" stamped on back. July 1941 written on photo. Irene - I see a resemblance to Traci. Based on photo ZL5 207 (dated July 1942) which shows Irene with Donna and Alice Joy I am moving this photo and the next 3 to 1942 despite the way they are labeled. Putting them in summer of 1942 the kids make more sense. The younger is Donna (born 9/29/1941) and the older Alice Joy (born 1/5/1940). Also, since Donna's hair has grown out more in ZL5 207 I am saying this photo is Irene with Donna in June 1942.
1942-19
( comments) No info. Assume 1942 and Donna
1942-20
( comments) On back Mom has written "July 1941" Irene (in same dress as previous photo), Fran, and girl. Note this girl is not the same girl as in previous photo. This argues strongly that this is July 1942 and the girl is Alice Joy.
1942-21
( comments) Stamped on back "878" so same roll of film as ZL5 202 which is labeled July 1941. But I am saying this is June 1942 and that this is Donna
1942-22
( comments) On photo someone wrote "July 1942" Looks correct with Alice Joy, Irene and Donna in Chicago.
1942-23
( comments) Dad labeled "Anderson Furn Truck" Someone wrote on back "Tommy Flaig 1942" Dad worked at Anderson, and probably drove this truck. Don't know who Tommy is. Looks like summer 1942.
1942-24
( comments) Gen Curran 1942 I don't know who she is.
1942-25
( comments) See next photo for Britta's 1942 Christmas greeting to Irene and Allen. She is sitting in front of Bethany Home. Summer 1942
1942-26
( comments) Back of photo of Britta. Summer 1942
1942-27
( comments) No info. But this goes with a series of 4 photos. Some appear to be of the open pit iron mines. They probably were taken when Albin was in school at Hibbing. So assume 1942.
1942-28
( comments) Squirrel in oak in front of 1103. Spring 1942
1942-29
( comments) Open Pit Iron Mines 1942

( comments) Open Pit Iron Mines 1942
1942-31
( comments) Probably near open pit mines. 1942
1942-32
( comments) Dad labeled "1103" This is Allen on the 1916 tractor piling black dirt on south side of house. That dirt pile stayed there until about 1957 when Don spread it out on lawn on south side of house and replanted grass seed. Assume 1942
1942-33
( comments) This copy is a scan of a photo Dad included in Dec 20, 2007 History article on the 1916 Tractor. See next photo for back of this photo. There was an original photo ZL5 329 now deleted. Goes with previous photo. Allen and 1916 tractor. Note Peterson house and pump in background. Assume 1942
1942-34
( comments)
1942-35
( comments) On back Mom wrote "September 1941" Thus Alice Joy playing dress up in high heels. But I think Mom mislabeled it. Alice Joy (born Jan 5 1940 looks more like 2 yr 8 months than 1 yr 8 mo) See also July 1942 photo of Alice Joy. In Sept 1942 Mom and Dad got married, so this would be a photo taken by Fran in Chicago or could be in Alex if Fran went to wedding. Assume Sept 1942.
1942-36
( comments) Wedding Photo. Same as next photo (ZL99 199). Al and Irene's wedding. Howard and Agnes. the flower girl is Zana Lund. Sept 4, 1942

1942-44
( comments) Sept 4, 1942 Allen and Irene wedding Must be photo they liked best as it is in folder.
1942-45
( comments) Mom labeled "September 4, 1942" The back is stamped "Brown ..Minneapolis Jun 29 1943" Yet another example of how Irene around the end of June 1943 decided she should get a bunch of old photos developed and put into an album. This does not look like Fahlun Church where they got married and had reception. So where is it??
1942-46
( comments) Al and Irene with wedding guests. The woman next to Mom could be Britta. I don't recognize others Sept 4, 1942
1942-47
( comments) Mom labeled "Agnes Ida Albin" Agnes is just to right of Irene, and Ida and Albin are lower right facing Al and Irene. This is cutting the cake in back of Fahlun Church Sept 4, 1942.
1942-48
( comments) This is original start of ZL9 Al and Irene's wedding! Note this is a double exposure. Mom labeled "Eunice Olson, ?, Otto Larson, Ida, ?" Not clear how that lines up with photo. Looks like receiving line after wedding. Sept 4, 1942.

1942-50

1942-51
( comments) Mom wrote on back "September, 1942" Red "310" stamp on back Looks like north woods so probably on honeymoon. This was an individual photo so hard to know where it fits. Note Dad has on a tie, so I am putting it with the Just Married photo as Dad also has a tie on. Who would have taken photo? Did someone take it with another camera and mail photo to them?
1942-52
( comments) Postcard written by Irene on their honeymoon Sat Sept 5, 1942. See next photo (347) for Mom's letter. This is cabin they stayed in first night of honeymoon.
