Album: 1941 Al Ljung Album

     Album:Family/Historical photos.:Gramps Allen:1940 Decade:1941 Al Ljung Album
1941-1
( comments) On back Irene (or probably Fran - their handwriting is similar) wrote "Alice Joy Weinthaler 1 year old January, 1941" Another copy of this photo has date of Jan 5, 1941 (which is her birthday).
1941-2
( comments) "A 5" stamped on back. This is Ida in peony patch at 1103. Guess March 1941.
1941-3
( comments) Dad labeled "Flooded yard" This is the front yard at 1103. Guess 1941.
1941-4
( comments) No info other than the 1941. Looks like Pearl in center. So probably Pearl and her parents.
1941-5
( comments) No info. Appears to be Herb with unidentified boys. Probably his nephews. Assume1941
1941-6
( comments) No info. Fran and Herb's church? In with 1941 photos so assume 1941
1941-7
( comments) 458 stamped on back. No info. However the next couple of pages of the album seem to be when Irene was working in Chicago at AT&T. I think that was 1941. Virtually no info with photos. An individual duplicate of this (also 458) has in Mom's writing on back "1840 N. Kedvale 1941" The 1840 address is clearly incorrect, but assume 1941 is correct.
1941-8
( comments) 458 stamped on back Irene. 1941
1941-9
( comments) The next 12 photos all come from the same roll (stamped "684F") Possibly co-workers 1941.

( comments) Irene with coat off. 1941
1941-19
( comments) Co-worker 1941
1941-20
( comments) 684F stamped on back. AT&T window. 1941
1941-21
( comments) "Lotus Gartland 1941" My guess is a co-worker with Irene
1941-22
( comments) Scanned from an 8 X 10 in a frame Dad had. The back has "Premier Color Studies 64 W Randolph St Chicago" Looks like 1941.
1941-23
( comments) Apparently Irene went to History Museum. This photo was followed by several more purchased tourist photos of museum displays. I did not scan them. 1941
1941-24
( comments) Someone printed on back "1840 North Kedvale Chicago Illinois Weinthaler House Second floor was first home of Frances and Herbert Weinthaler" Probably a Weinthaler photo given to Irene. Processing stamp 949 Assume 1941
1941-25
( comments) No info. No photography processing stamp on back. Unidentified child. 1941
1941-26
( comments) 705 in red stamped on back. Probably Mom wrote "1941" Clearly a picture of Allen driving the Model A. I suspect it was on the drive down to see Irene in Chicago in April, 1941
1941-27
( comments) Mom wrote "Summer 1941" 705 in red stamped on back. I believe this was April 1941 in the back seat of the Model A on the trip to Chicago. Agnes and problaly Howard.
1941-28
( comments) Mom wrote "Taming of the Shrew" and then separately in different ink "summer 1940 or 41"705 in red stamped on back. Because of the processing stamp I believe this is April 1941 in back seat of Model A going to Chicago. Agnes and probably Howard.
1941-29
( comments) Someone wrote on double stick paper used to attach photo "Agnes, Howard, Anna Johnson (Gilbertson) 1940 - 41" No processing stamp on back. From later photos we know this is from April 1941.
1941-30
( comments) no info. No processing stamp on back This is Howard, Agnes, Allen. April 1941
1941-31
( comments) Allen label is "Irene and Allen 1840 N Kedvale Chicago" April 6, 1941 from other photos.
1941-32
( comments) "I-1 25" No processing stamp.Clearly Sunday April 6, 1941 in front of Kedvale. Irene and Allen
1941-33
( comments) John sent us after Dad's funeral Don has untinted version in spring 1941
1941-34
( comments) 31 stamped on back. Clearly Sunday April 6,1941 in front of Kedvale. Howard, Agnes, Anna hidden, Irene
1941-35
( comments) 228 stamped on back. From later photos, this is Sunday April 6, 1941. That day is Palm Sunday. Soldier Field in background. Anna, Irene, Agnes.
1941-36
( comments) Mom wrote on back "Sunday April 6, 1941 South of Soldier Field, Chicago" Also "I-1 24" 228 stamped on back. Note Model A drove to Chicago. Allen and Howard.
1941-37
( comments) Photos scanned by John Martinson 2/25/17 Irene in Chicago April 6, 1941
1941-38
( comments) 31 stamped on back. Looking north on Lake Shore Drive by Soldier Field. Howard, Irene, Agnes, Anna April 6, 1941.
1941-39
( comments) 31 stamped on back. A dup of this (no stamp) has Dad's writing on back "First trip to Chicabo for Model A Area is where World's Fair was held in 1939" I believe Dad is wrong. I think all of these photos are from same spot just south of Soldier Field on Outer Drive (Now called LSD). Howard, Agnes, Irene, Anna April 6, 1941.
1941-40
( comments) 228 stamped on back. Allen, Howard, Agnes, Anna April 6, 1941.
1941-41
( comments) "I-1 25" No processing stamp. Another copy is stamped 31 and someone has written on back "Apr 1941 Chicago Outer Drive near Field Museum" Soldier Field is partly shown on left. Behind it and to the right is Field Musuem. Note that Outer Drive used to go to east of both Soldier Field and Field Musuem. Thus we are looking north here and car is pointed south west. Irene, Allen. April 6,1941
1941-42
( comments) "I-1 25" No processing stamp. Allen, Howard. April 6, 1941
1941-43
( comments) No info except A 3 stamped on back in black. However this is Howard and Agnes looking at Shedd Aquarium with Field on right. Note traffic on Outer Drive passes between two musuems. It is not same date as April 6, 1941 as Agnes has different coat. There are five photos of this outing. Assume same trip to Chicago though so April 1941.
1941-44
( comments) A 3 stamped on back in black. Irene Grant Park in background Chicago April 1941
1941-45
( comments) A 3 stamped on back in black. Howard on walkway to Field Museum. April 1941
1941-46
( comments) A 3 stamped on back in black. Lake Shore Drive looking north from overpass to Field. Note almost zero traffic on Lakeshore! Note Chicago skyline. April 1941.
1941-47
( comments) A 3 stamped on back. Grant Park April 1941
1941-48
( comments) 228 stamped on back. Someone put "1941" on photo. Herb, Alice Joy, Fran in front of 1840 Kedvale, Chicago.
1941-49
( comments) Mom wrote on back "At 1840 N. Kedvale Chicago April 11, 1941" Agnes and Anna on Irene's 24th birthday. 228 stamped on back.
1941-50
( comments) Mom wrote on back"1840 N. Kedvale Chicago April 12, 1941" 228 on back. Anna with Alice Joy.
1941-51
( comments) Mom wrote on back"1840 N. Kedvale Chicago April 12, 1941" 228 stamped on back. Agnes with Alice Joy.
1941-52
( comments) 3 stamped on back (Probably A 3 with A missing.) There is now a string of photos taken on the trip back from Chicago to Alexandria. This is a scene in central Wis probably along US 12. April 1941
1941-53
( comments) "I-1 26" on back of 2 sided paper used to insert in album - implies writtten when album put together) A 3 stamped on back. Irene and Allen in Wisconsin. Note Dad had driven to Chicago to bring Mom home! I don't know if Howard, Agnes and Anna also came back or not. Presumeable at least one did - to take this photo! Probably April 1941.
1941-54
( comments) 684F stamped on back. There is a loose duplicate of this photo printed at same time as it also has 684F. On the back of the loose duplicate Mom wrote "Wisconsin Dells April 4, 1942" For now assume the 1942 is incorrect. If April 4 date is correct than these trip photos are from drive down to Chicago not the trip home. However that means that the previous photo (with A 3 stamp) is also on trip to Chicago. However we have an Oct 16 photo of Dad that is also A 3. I suppose the A 3 photos could be from Dad's camera and that he didn't take many photos. For now leave all Wis photos like Mom had in album - on drive home. Irene in Wis - same day as previous photo. April 1941
1941-55
( comments) A 3 on back. Around Wis Dells? April 1941.
1941-56

1941-62
( comments) A 3 stamped on back. Central Wis on trip back from Chicago April 1941
1941-63
( comments) From Albin's album. With Edythe family photos. Not clear which daughter this is. From looks could be Arleen, Arlou or even Ardelle. This is a 5 x 7 inch photo which might indicate "first" child, ie Arleen. Also there is a May 1943 photo of Arleen that looks pretty close. This child looks about 3 so go with Arleen in April 1941.
1941-64
( comments) Dad labeled this photo and previous "Fredolph and Edythe Hanson Children" Same day as ZL11 037 so Arleen in April 1941.
1941-65
( comments) Mom on back "Pearl and Ev Summer 1941" Dad wrote Ev as Evelyn. I don't know her.
1941-66
( comments) I believe the order is mixed up (I scanned in order they were in album) The first photo was clearly downtown (corner of 5th and Broadway?) This photo is in a residental area. My guess is that Irene watched the parade downtown and then after the parade walked over to residental area where floats were sitting (or possibly at staging area before parade) Assume July 4 1941
1941-67
( comments) This is part of 16 photos all marked "051" on back. Dad labeled this photo "Viola Sessions (worked at Anderson Furn w/Dad (Yes)" So she worked with Albin. Clearly some big parade (July 4?). Unfortunately no other information on labels or backs of photos. I looked for clues as to year in photos. ZL5 305 has a "1943" painted on side of clown car. Maybe the year? ZL5 306 has two license plates on an antique REO. There is a regular 1940 plate plus a plate with A41. Is that an antique plate issued in 1941? And is it valid for say 5 years? Also the same photo shows "Gambles Progress 1941 2500 Stores" In that photo there is a car in the background. It has a white plate with black letters. That matches 1941 and 1942 plates (1940, 43, 44 are reverse) Putting this all together I am guessing July 1941.
1941-68
( comments) Assume July 4 1941
1941-69
( comments) Assume July 4 1941
1941-70
( comments) Note 1943 on side. Assume July 4 1941
1941-71
( comments) Note license plates and sign on side. I cannot bring out date on plate on car in background. But note sign on car clearly has number of Gamble stores in 1941 so assume July 4 1941
1941-72
( comments) Assume July 4 1941

1941-82
( comments) Guess 1941.
1941-83
( comments) Four photos of some air show. But no info. Guess 1941.
1941-84
( comments) Guess 1941..
1941-85
( comments) Guess 1941...
1941-86
( comments) Someone wrote on back "August, 1941 Engine derailed on Milwaukee Suburban line. "Elgin Local" Chicago, Illinois" "2951" Amazing! Why do we have this? Did Mom pick it up while working in Chicago? Is it a commercial photo?
1941-87
( comments) On back "Oct 19, 1941 5 P.M." Dad labeled "Doug Hanson __Cinia Allen __Grail" A 3 stamped on back. Also in 2016 looking at this photo, Allen said "Al's girl in St Paul" Amazing! I think the girl with Doug is Alyce Larson. She shows up in later photos
1941-88
( comments) Someone wrote on back "Oct. 1941" Dad added "Doug & Carl" A 5 stamped on back.
1941-89
( comments) Dad labeled "Carl, Howard, Winfred Anderson" Note that the car is not the Model A. Assume fall 1941
1941-90
( comments) Goes with earlier photo. Carl Howard, Winfred Anderson. Note Howard has same suit on as in a Chicago April 1941 photo. Assume fall 1941
1941-91
( comments) This was a strip of 4 identical headshots. Across the bottom Mom? had written "Irene Margaret Hanson 24 yrs Chicago 1941" See different pose in next photo ZL99 266.
1941-92
( comments) I found this behind a 1942 photo of Howard (in a picture frame). The back has a Chicago address - 30 W. Washington St Swisher Studio. This is clearly a different pose of ZL99 595. Thus Irene in Chicago 1941
1941-93
( comments) Photo of Mom in Chicago (note Chicago Address for photographer) I think there was a colorized version of this in their bedroom. 1941
1941-94
( comments) Dad wrote on folder "Irene Hanson Ljung" Irene in Chicago 1941
1941-95
( comments) Scanned from an 8 X 10 in a frame Dad had. Mom wrote on back - see next photo. The studio is DoVal Studio ____ Armitage (a street in Chicago). Christmas 1941.
1941-96
( comments) Writing on back of ZL99 209. Christmas 1941
