Burning Man 2023.

The mudpocalypse.

It was amazing, and definitely more work.

First we had Covid, then we had the difficulty of the catchup year, then we had mudpocalypse.

Burning Man definitely teaches a community how to be resilient and powerful.

There was rain on early entry, which delayed build by a couple days, which was a tough job. Then there was rain right before exit, which pushed all the burns and exodus out a couple days as well (Temple Burn was on Tuesday!) but it was amazing. I had actually been waiting for exactly this scenario for many years. I was admittedly a bit disppointed with how little people would 'shelter in place' because of how much it ripped up the playa, but people's ability to work together and figure it out was fantastic.

I also managed to bring out the Train and get stage two working, which was both the train and caboose getting a day pass this year. Still need to get lights done, which didn't happen because of the loss of two days with early arrival. Hopefully next year we'll have the whole setup.

Finally getting to the burn
for early arrival on THURSDAY, and unfortunately we get caught up with all the Friday early arrivals who showed up too early, and they had to close the gates. My longest gate entrance in many, many years. The foreshadowing to how different this year was going to be. ( comments)
Wait... I know that structure!
That's Shit Howdy's art car (unskinned). I run up and say hi, but Shit Howdy isn't here this year and has someone else running the car. ( comments)
We get a lot done

There's a whole puzzle
in the train station, which I have never solved, but involves time travel, and mentions Sam and the Bijou Theatre as having been out in 'Dodge City' since the 50s. Love it. ( comments)
