Album:2006:06-27 Europe:08-04 Night In Amsterdam

Our flights required a layover in Amsterdam. I'd been through the airport many a times, but never into the city, so we decided to make a go of it, and ended up spending a whole night in Amsterdam. We got a hotel outside the city and then took the train in, and ended up walking around the city from before midnight till after 6 am. The city didn't quiet down until about 4 or 5, which was pretty amazing.
On the plane to Amsterdam There's a monster on the wing!
I swear! Get the captain!
Haley and Mr. P
on the train to the hotel.
Amsterdam Central Station
Time: 11:40:46pm
Some very Amsterdam-y building. We find lion statues.
DaveLion lives again!
..met by rival HaleyLion We get lots of food,
including some 'Wok To Walk' noodles. Haley gave it 2 stars, Dave gave it zero. ugh.
We find a four wheeled Amica!
Just like in Herrang week 3.
A bench in a plaza. We inadvertantly hit the mall district,
fortunately closed.
Dave, it turns out,
is a Sissy-Boy
More mini-vehicles,
we find an awesome little 'Gorilla' motorcycle - only 50cc, but with cycle transmission, brakes, etc..!
Haley notices that the buildings
are (intentionally?) crooked, giving a definite fairy-tale feel.
Absolute Danny,
in the Red Light District (photo in honor of Disco Dan)
A bridge that Haley liked.
Yet another entry
in the "Mock That Statue" contest that was so popular this Europe trip.
Eyeglass tree More crooked houses The city finally quieted down
as the sun rose.
Back at Central Station
to catch (miss) the first train back. Time: 6:11:05am
Waiting for the (next) train. Then come the no-sleep-giggles. The exhausted train-waiters.
And Haley has more giggles
on the train.
..of which I
am partly to blame.
*tee hee!*
