Album: Madison Visit

     Album:2006:11-24 Thanksgiving:Madison Visit

On her birthday, I took Haley up to see my namesake and first love, Madison, Wisconsin.
Old Bassett Street,
from my Senior II year. ( comments)
Which is where I posed for
one of my favorite portaits back in 1994 ( comments)
Recreating the photo
using a different model (and missing a motorcycle). ( comments)
The Bassett house.
( comments)
And my apartment
on Broom St, for Sophomore - Senior year. ( comments)
Haley gets to experience
a Madison birthday cookie. We either got these frosted cookies or the humongous pie cookies for birthdays. ( comments)
Happy Birthday, Haley!
( comments)
Haley gives a protest speech
at the square. ( comments)
The capital.
( comments)
Which I actually use..joy walking through.
( comments)
Haley on the fountains
( comments)
And on Lincoln's lap,
at the top of Bascom Hill ( comments)
The old CAE computer lab,
where I worked and spent much time. ( comments)
Big Mike's has been renamed Milio's,
and has become almost as sucky as it's less tasty counterpart, Jimmy John's. The low quality chain wins again.. ( comments)
And Dorn Hardware,
which I lived near, frequented, met Dave Whaley, and briefly worked at. ( comments)
I think this is 14 N. Broom,
the bizarre "house-of-many-girlfriends," but it looks like it's been converted to a single apartment. ( comments)
The glow of Capital Centre Foods,
my neighborhood grocery store and recipient of many a 1-2 dollar checks in my poor student days. ( comments)
Dave recreates a vin..nion headline photo:
"Experts Baffled by Amazing Worm Boy" (or was it "Amazing Worm Boy of Picnic Point"?? I'd have to root through my old copies of the Onion to find out..) ( comments)
Downtown and the capital
across the water ( comments)
The skyline
across Lake Mendota ( comments)
A ghost figure
hangs above the water.. ( comments)
Haley on a tree.
( comments)
The greatest restaurant in the world,
according to all my travels, is Jolly Bob's Jerk Joint. Heaven. ( comments)
In frantic anticipation,
I start eating my hand. ( comments)
And, to the most amazing of delights,
they carry the finest Ginger Beer in the world, by D&G. Can it get any better? ( comments)
Then the food comes,
and for a while I look like this. It's really disgusting, actually. ( comments)
Oh, sweet lord of curry and jerk,
thank you for this bounty you have delivered unto me. ( comments)
The dishes are slightly different,
and sadly not quite as juicy as 10 years back, but still fantastic. The biggest loss of all is the lack of "Well Curry" from the menu. ( comments)
And we surprise old friend
Dave Whaley, at another retail managerial position, this time peddling tobacco and slurpees instead of nuts and bolts. ( comments)
The beautiful capital at night.
Goodbye Madison! ( comments)
